Odor description: oily, fatty, slightly waxy, floral, with leathery nuances

An unusual, "unconventional" aroma molecule — chemically the methyl ester of α-linolenic acid, a derivative of the omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid naturally present in linseed oil, flax and other oil-seeds. It also occurs as a natural constituent of many floral absolutes — in jasmine sambac absolute (in significant amounts, around 12%!), jasmine grandiflorum, cassie, narcissus, and in mimosa and geranium oils, among others.

It has a distinctly oily, fatty, waxy scent — with subtle green, soapy and fruity nuances in the background. This is not a molecule with a bold olfactive character in the traditional sense; its role in a composition is more textural than aromatic. It brings a sense of "body", fullness and softness.
