Odor description: minty, cool, herbal, with woody nuances

A classic fragrance and flavour molecule — the laevorotatory enantiomer of menthone.

Menthone exists in two main stereoisomeric forms: L-Menthone (−) — the dominant natural form found in peppermint oil (Mentha piperita), and D-Menthone (+) — the rarer counterpart. The molecule is produced naturally in plants through the oxidation of menthol and is one of the key components of peppermint oil. Our version is a mixture of isomers with L-menthone as the dominant component.

Its olfactive profile is fresh, cooling and distinctly minty, with a woody, lightly herbal finish. Compared to menthol, menthone is drier and more herbaceous — carrying something of the character of freshly crushed mint leaves, pennyroyal and geranium. The woody facet clearly balances the minty freshness, making the molecule more versatile than pure menthol.
