Kaffir lime leaf oil (makrut lime / Citrus hystrix) is a rare and highly distinctive material with an intriguing, exotic green note. It smells fresh and leafy, but not like a typical citrus oil — more in the direction of green lime, petitgrain, citronella, or verbena. Its uniqueness comes from its chemical profile: the leaf oil is dominated by components giving a green-aldehydic character rather than a classic citrus (limonene-driven) profile. This is why it smells so unusual and exotic.

In perfumery, it works beautifully as a lively accent — bringing freshness, naturalness, and a green “twist” that is hard to achieve with more obvious citrus materials. Especially effective in cologne, aromatic, green, and tropical accords, as well as anywhere an exotic touch is desired.
