Eugenol is an aromatic chemical compound and the main component of clove essential oil (up to 90% of its content). Its characteristic, spicy aroma is instantly recognisable and widely used in perfumery.

In fragrance compositions, it plays a reinforcing and structural role — bringing warmth, depth and a distinctive character. It performs particularly well in spicy, rosy, oriental and fougère accords. It can also serve as a counterpoint to floral or green notes.
