Odor description: labdanum, resinous-amber, woody, noble

A natural fraction of labdanum resin (Cistus ladaniferus) produced by IFF — one of those materials around which there is considerable naming confusion online. "Ambrain", "Ambrein", "Ambreine" — these names are used by different manufacturers (IFF, Firmenich, Biolandes) to designate different but related labdanum-derived products. An additional source of confusion is that Ambreine also refers to a historical base accord used in Shalimar, among others (bergamot / vanillin / sandalwood / musk) — which is a completely different thing. So when we speak of Ambrain de Labdanum by IFF, we are talking about a labdanum-derived fraction — not the historical compositional accord.

Compared to raw labdanum absolute, Ambrain is smoother, cleaner and more refined — without the "heavy" waxy-earthy ballast typical of a full absolute. At the same time, it retains the full characteristic warmth of labdanum: notes of resin, dried fruit, honey, brandy, soft leather and sweet balsamic amber.
